Let mindfulness be the way of life

How often has it happened that you are physically at work but your mind is with the conversation you had with your friend yesterday? Or you are having dinner without even realizing what you are eating as you are too busy scrolling through your insta page?

I am sure it has happened to all of us and most definitely with me too!! Often I am in a room full of people and suddenly am feeling very lonely .…Why do these feelings occur?? I decided that I wanted to decode this and hence started my journey of self-discovery and mindfulness.

Few days back, I was reading the book called, “The Miracle of Mindfulness” by Thich Nhat Hanh. He beautifully describes how important it is to live in the present. By that he means that we should be conscious of the task that we are doing NOW!! For example if you are reading this blog , you should be 100% reading and digesting what is written and not just read it because its an activity which you need to do. While all of us take pride in the fact that I am very good at multi tasking, the book recommends that we should do one task at a time and give it our 100%. He stresses that you need to to be focused on one activity at a time. Bothering about the future or simultaneously handling many tasks at a time would not enable us to do the task completely. Getting “FOCUSED” is the key.

My major takeaway from this book is that focus helps us to complete our tasks more efficiently and also if we are conscious and alive when we are doing any activity, be it even washing utensils or being with friends we will really enjoy the activity. The book recommends, if you you wish to enhance your focus then you should concentrate on your breathing.

I have personally experienced that proper breathing plays an important role in life. It has been proved that there is a huge difference between shallow and deep breathing. Focused breathing helps increase our concentration and also helps in rejuvenation of our cells.

If all the activities that we do, are done with an alert mind and total commitment then the results would be commendable. If a person develops

the habit of focusing on his awareness on the present moment, then he will succeed in life , irrespective of the situation he is in.

So go ahead , give mindfulness a try and watch a new YOU.
