Be Resilient

History has several examples to prove that humans are highly resilient in nature. The human form is constantly evolving and working and striving to be the best version of their own self. Unlike other organisms on this planet the human form is unique as we have a MIND. It’s the mind which helps us cope or give up in times of struggles.

All our sages from times immemorial have always advised us to tame our mind and the rest just falls into place. Whether it is illness, shock or change working on our minds helps us conquer all setbacks. When Hiroshima and Nagasaki cities were bombed with atom bombs it led to the destruction, loss of life, mutations and misery. It also led to the morale breakdown of the people who survived this tragedy. After the bomb explosions the radio activity continued and there were further losses. Even the next generations suffered from cancer to other genetic deformities. But the people of Japan did not give up and in few years, they rebuilt their cities. That is what resilience is.

Even in Vietnam, the war went on for 20 long years. There was misery, massive destruction, loss of life and unhappiness. But today if you visit Vietnam its hard to believe that ! Again the people here, did not allow themselves to wallow in self pity but worked towards a brighter future.

Both the above examples indicate how resilient humans are. They saw death all around and were disturbed for a long period of time. However going forward, they forgot many things and started a fresh. Humans are ever growing beings but they adapt also to the new situations and find peace.

There are many examples wherein people were pushed to the worst form of atrocities, as happened in concentration camps of Germany. Viktor Frankle is a great example of a person who survived the concentration camps despite seeing all his friends dying.Victor saw brutalities and demoralization all around but was optimistic that he will come out of this tragedy. Finally, he was out. He has mentioned his ordeal in his book called “Man’s search for Meaning”.

In today’s world we tend to lose hope because we want instant solutions and instant answers to our problems. There is no magic wand which can provide instant solutions. We will have to train our mind to not give up, despite tragedy striking us. However, it is easier said than done. In our life there will be many ups and downs and we may feel that it’s the end of the world. But we must remember that bad times pass and the above examples would strengthen your conviction that we are basically strong and resilient. This will give you internal strength to move ahead in life.

We must remind ourselves consistently that humans are basically resilient and they can face any situation and come out as a winner.
